You Are Amazing Card

Hello! Today I’d like to share how to make a unique, artsy background for your next card or paper project.

Step 1: Apply Distress Inks directly to craft sheet

To make this card, I started with a piece of 140# cold-pressed watercolor paper. I got out my non-stick craft sheet, and applied Aged Mahogany, Weathered Wood, and Pine Needles Distress Inks directly to the craft sheet. Then I used water in a mini-mister to spritz the ink until it beaded up.

Step 2: Dip your paper in the ink then dry it

I placed the watercolor paper face down into the ink on the craft sheet, wiggled it, turned it right side up, and immediately dried it using my Heat It craft tool (heat gun). Then I dipped the paper face down into the remaining ink, wiggled it, flipped it right side up, and dried it again. This second dip is what created the splotches.

Step 3: Mist with Perfect Pearls for shine

Next, I misted the entire piece with pearl Perfect Pearls mixed with water in a mini-mister. The Perfect Pearls add shine, and the addition of water softens and blends the ink colors. You can see the shine in the close-up below.

Step 4: Add finishing details to background

One the background panel was dry, I trimmed it to be slightly smaller than a standard A2 sized (4.25″ x 5.5″) card base. I used a punch to add visual interest to the corners and I wrapped snow white metallic elastic cord around it. Then I mounted it to a kraft card base.

Step 5: Add the sentiment

Next, I stamped a damask ornament from Hero Arts CL401 Speckled Ornaments onto white paper using a Tsukineko Memento Dew Drop (dye ink) in Desert Sand. Then I stamped the “you are amazing” sentiment using Hero Arts C4901 Amazing over top, using Aged Mahogany Distress Ink.

I die cut and dry embossed the sentiment and a blue matte using Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Ovals and Classic Scalloped Ovals. Finally, I added 3 slate blue pearls from Hero Arts CH213 Sea Mixed Accents and adhered the sentiment and matte to the card base using foam squares for dimension.
