Ladies in Black by Arlene McClung; used with permission.

Yes, black and white. Not that I don’t love color, but some of the most beautiful photos and cards I’ve seen feature black and white colors. They make you see past the color to the image itself. It’s like taking a speech and reducing it to the most important points.
Black and white does not mean DULL!
It’s a magical land that can be full of shadings and mystery or stark reality, dramatic and bold. When I stamped this Artist Trading Card (ATC) with a Hampton Arts image, I was thrilled with the result. I feel it pulls my interest even more than colors would.
ATCs are 3 1/2″ by 2 1/2″ pieces of art, of just about any material the artist wishes to use. I use paper and inks for the most part when I create. I added that wonderful Rangers White Enamel Accents to the bottom for more depth.
You don’t always have to think in color, try black and white for the unusual and often dramatic look in your art.
Arlene McClung has always liked to color, though drawing never drew her attention. Interests change and she’s made jewelry and pottery, but her interest always came back to paper. Now Arlene can share her interest with a creative granddaughter and have fun too! Arlene may retire from the workforce in a few years, but there will still not be enough time for everything she wants to do, learn, and make.

What an awesome guest post. I agree black and white can look nice on it’s own. Sadly, I can’t stop with black and white. Will give it a go. Off to see your blog.
I love black and white even in ink paintings but especially black and white well taken photographs. I’ve taken B&W myself but it takes more consideratioin (for me) to get a real good picture.
